LJL- EOC 1

INTRODUCTION

EOC1 or essence of color project was full of observing, experimenting and questioning. The main purpose of this project was to connect with our environment and colors which are consisted in it and to learn about inquiry.

Techniques of inquiry

During this project we were introduced to various tools of inquiry:

  • Observation( Participant observation and non-participant observation)

  • Questioning( Why, what, How)

  • Primary( observe, experiment, discuss) and secondary( read, watch, write)

For the most part of the project I used observation and secondary technique for project as reading, watching and writing was a major role in our project. For example

  1. In observation I realized that in our nature, there are quite less objects which are in color purple.

2. Secondary method was used for task 3 and task 6, as it required reading, watching and writing.

MIND MAP

A mind map is basically a diagram in which helps to represent information visually, usually with a central idea placed in the middle and associated ideas and basic information arranged around it. It helps us to hunt down more information about the topic which directly or indirectly related with it. A mind map is really beneficial for design thinking as it not only helps in saving time, but also helps to improve creativity and it improves the way of presenting. For this project also mind map played a very important role as it helped us in inquiry about the little and basic things of our specific color.

CONCLUSION
  • The muddiest point for me in EOC1 was Task7 which was a video representation of how colors have played an important role in cinematography. In this we were given color pink and purple and needed to show how these colors were used in fashion and explained the nature or behavior of the character. For this, research took a lot of time and our group got in work mode before one day of presentation. But in the end, with teamwork we were able to present our video on time and received positive feedback from teachers.

  • The clearest point will be mind map. During the process of mind map I was not only able to make connections but also, I was able to inquire for associations of my specific color. It helped me to dive deeper in my color and search information about it.

Key learnings
  • There are so many shades or tints of any specific color which communicates different messages to us. For example, the color given to me was purple, and the two different examples of purple color are lilac and plum. The color lilac symbolizes first love and on the other hand, the color plum symbolizes royalty.

  • This project not only helped me to observe the colors around me but, it also helped to ask questions about colors and be curious to know why a specific color is used.

  • Color theory can help in sales of a business. It can help to build a brand. People decide whether they want to buy a particular product or not and that decision is 90% based on color.

  • This project we were also able to differentiate between tints, shades and hues, and how a slight change in color can tell the behavior of a certain character. It helped us to realize that colors play a vital role in cinematography.

For my future EOC classes, I would like to learn types of inquiry, so it will help me to be curious about small things around us.
