FVL-2

INTRODUCTION

FVL-2 or fundamentals of visual language cycle2 was a continuation of FVL1. This project helped us to be sensitive with the tiniest details possible of our organic form. It also helped us to understand its color, space and surface. We were Introduced to many other mediums of drawing like glaze paper, charcoal, soft pastels, water colors etc.

Observation and representation

Observing and representing was the major key learning for this project. Observation is very important part to make 2D drawings. Representation comes along with the observing.

  • Outlining our organic- Outlining our organic helped me to understand the shape and texture of plantains(raw banana) from different angles.

  • Color of organic- While observing, I realized that there is no specific color of an organic. There are always two or more colors present in every organic.

Visual media

In FVL2, we used many different mediums like charcoal, oil pastels and water colors. Experience while working with them were different. For me, I have used oil pastels a lot before and working with charcoal was also familiar to me as I used that during FVL1.

But working with water colors was new to me. I always felt that water colors are not made for me to be used as, I am not good at working with them.

Conclusion
  • This project helped me to observe the smallest details of plantains. While working with plantains I also started to observe my surroundings more carefully and noticing things in depth.

  • During this project, I was able to recognize the shape, texture and color of plantains from different angles.

  • I probably think that working with water colors was not one of my best work as it was my first time to use them properly. But hopefully with practice it will get better.

Strengths

One of my strength during this project was working with glaze papers. Cutting glaze papers with your hands in the shape of your organic was the most fun and interesting part. It helped us to understand the shape of our organic from all the sides present.

I was also able to recognize all the colors of my organic and therefore, making color swatches for this was quite easy and I was enjoying that. Making color swatches helped me to understand more about my organic.

Challenges

One of the biggest challenges during FVL2 was working with wet mediums(water colors). Before FVL2, I almost never used paints and water colors for any of my work. Therefore, I am still practicing with water colors.

Barriers

Barriers I faced, was time management during the first week of this project, as I found myself distracted and not that motivated. Therefore I had to work after my class as well but during the second week, I started my work sincerely and was in form of working.

During FVL2 my most effective work will be working with glaze paper and oil pastels. I have been using oil pastels since I can remember. Working with glaze paper was quite interesting for me as well. My least effective work will be working with wet mediums. I also struggled working with charcoal because of light and shading but with time it got better.

FUTURE INQUIRY

For my future classes, I would love to work more with wet mediums, so that I can get better and comfortable while working with them. I would also love to draw more things with my observation skills .
